For all living organisms, copper is essential but in excess, is extremely toxic. Wilson disease and Menkes disease are two major disorders of copper homeostasis. My laboratory is interested to understand the mechanism of copper entry and exit into/from mammalian cells. Towards that goal we are trying to understand how the mammalian 'copper importer' channel CTR1 and 'copper exporting' ATPase pumps ATP7A and ATP7B functions and is regulated.
